Colleen De Reuck has had an impressive competitive running career dating back 23 years. She has personal bests of 2:26:35 in the marathon, 68:38 in the half marathon and 31:16 for the 10 km. She held previous World Bests for 20 km (65:11) and 10 miles (51:16).

This year, it was age and experience that ruled the day as Colleen De Reuck, seemingly as fast at age 45 as she was two decades ago. At the Annual Awards Breakfast, Saturday December 5th at the 2009 USA Track & Field Annual Meeting, award winners were announced for their achievements on and off the track. Among those were Colorado’s Colleen De Reuck, named the Master’s Athlete of the Year .

At 45 years old, Colleen is the oldest woman ever to win a major U.S. championship, having won the 2009 U.S. 20 km Championships by a margin of 17 seconds with a time of 67:21 which bettered her own U.S. Womens’masters record of 68:47,set here in 2005 . De Reuck took control before the halfway point of the race to win the women’s crown in 1 hour 07 minutes 21 seconds.

At the Boston Marathon this year, not only was De Reuck in contention throughout the entire race, she took the lead on three separate occasions. She was crowned the masters winner and finished an astounding eighth overall, covering the course in 2:37:57. De Reuck’s other top performances in 2009 includes finishing second overall in the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon in 2:32:37. The race also played host to the USA Masters Marathon Championships, which saw De Reuck win the W45 age group, and the USA Women’s Marathon Championships, in which she finished as the runner-up. De Reuck also won the masters division at the Falmouth Road Race and finished fifth overall. Colleen is also a personal trainer working with athletes on a part-time basis since. As a four time Olympian Colleen brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table.

Darren DeRueck Bio

Darren De Reuck has been coaching runners for over 20 years from recreational to club level to Olympians. He is the Owner of the Bolder Striders, a running group that caters to runners of all abilities and Head Coach Running Republic of Boulder, a USATF affiliated competitive Running Club as well as Head of Running with Boulder Coaching, a triathlon /running based organization catering to all level triathletes and runners.

Beginning in 1988, he coached club level as well as elite runners in his native South Africa. In 1993, he began serving as a training partner to his wife, Colleen De Reuck, always advising the Coach and later becoming her coach. Starting in 2000, Darren headed up the official training club for one of the largest 10 km road races in the country, The Bolder Boulder. Drawing from his success with the Bolder Boulder Training Club, he formed The Boulder Striders in July 2002, a running group that caters to runners of all abilities. In September of the same year, he formed The Running Republic of Boulder. This group is a USATF affiliated competitive running club and includes runners who are competitive at all age-group levels.

Darren has served as the head coach for both of these clubs. Darren’s running history began in 1979 and his running accomplishments are impressive. He has run a personal best in the marathon of 2:16:28, a half marathon in 1:04:20 and 14:18 for 5000 meters. Although his impressive history contributes to his success as a coach, Darren believes the true measurement of his success is the continuous and steady progress with his runners. Darren has had great success with not only the elite athletes he has worked with, but all levels and abilities including athletes new to running.

”Having coached runners of all abilities, it is just as satisfying to watch someone break 60 minutes for the 10 km for the first time as it is to see someone break a world best on the roads. I have been coaching since 1988 and feel each day brings something new and exciting and I will continue to grow and learn and pass that onto my runners.” Darren
